Manistee ShoreLine ShowCase is a volunteer, not-for-profit concert series that features internationally touring professional, jazz, blues, pop, rock and R&B entertainers.
FREE to the public 7pm Tuesday nights at First Street Beach. A Manistee institution since 2003!
All performances are free to the public and donations can be mailed to Manistee ShoreLine ShowCase, P.O. Box 62, Manistee MI 49660.
Weather Announcement:
We have an excellent new inclement weather site in Manistee, adjacent to the beach. The folks at the Armory Youth Project have opened up their doors for us to use the Armory when it's cold windy or raining.
Our volunteer committee toured the facility and some of us are secretly hoping tor a chance to use it because it's going to be fantastic.
Picnics and coolers will still be allowed. We will have the option of setting up cabaret style and for dancing or concert seating. You can still bring your own lawn chair if you want. Follow us on Facebook for updates.
History of the Manistee ShoreLine ShowCase
The year was 2002. Lyn and Loren Houtman had traveled from Manistee to Baldwin to attend another free Saturday night concert.
After the show they approached concert organizer, Tim Scully, to compliment the twice weekly program he spearheaded for nine years prior, in Baldwin and four other West Michigan communities.
They asked, “What would it take to bring your shows to Manistee?”
Scully replied, “It would take an informal committee of volunteers to promote awareness of the events and to raise funds to pay for the musicians and production expenses.
It would also be necessary to arrange and agree on a public venue that would at least keep the entertainers, ‘out of the weather’.”
Consideration would also be needed to provide in-kind housing for the visiting artists, as well as a complementary light meal and soft drinks, backstage.
They made plans to discuss the proposition in the near future.
A couple weeks passed and drummer, Tom Amor Jr, was performing in Baldwin with The Salt City Dixie Band, from Manistee.
Coincidentally, Amor echoed the Houtman’s sentiments with Scully and envisioned a weekly series in Manistee.
Phone numbers were exchanged bringing Houtman, Amor and Scully together, to frontier the project.
Scully proposed an abbreviated series for the freshman year and submitted a schedule, a budget and coined the project, “Manistee ShoreLine ShowCase.”
Lyn, a retired teacher put aside her decades of using proper spelling/grammar and became the “proofreader in chief”, making sure, amongst other things, that within the name - ShoreLine ShowCase had a capital “L” and “C” in the middle of the words.
Tom agreed to act as co-chair, Mary Duncan Russell volunteered as treasurer and along w Lyn they started immediately to “drum up” local support for the venture.
The use of the Rotary Pavilion at First Street beach, on Tuesday nights @7pm, was approved for 6 weeks.
The rest is history as we have grown to a full eleven week series and continue to work together, to present the 16th annual Manistee ShoreLine ShowCase.
Several “pillars” of the community, have paved the way as committee chairs and volunteers, donating not only their time but cash, in addition to making numerous logistical sacrifices.
From Tom Amor Jr, Amor Image Pros, with “professional imaging services” in formatting our yearly poster and weekly printed programs), the Houtmans, Ms.Russell and Scully, the selfless list manifested itself.
